About Us

Belton Preparatory Academy is a FREE public charter school located at 5901 Belton Highway, Belton, SC, on the campus of Second Baptist Church.  Students do not have to reside in Anderson School District #2 to attend BPA. As long as the student is a SC resident, he/she may attend BPA at no cost.

BPA is sponsored by the Charter Institute at Erskine, a state-wide authorizer. The school was launched in 2018 with K5-2nd grades.   Each year an additional grade level will be added through eighth grade.

BPA’s educational focus is entrepreneurial and free market competition, which emphasizes the development of leadership qualities and learning behaviors such as taking positive risks, viewing errors as opportunities, working to recover from a mistake, giving and receiving feedback, asking questions, collaborating with peers, setting goals, planning with a purpose, and tracking personal progress. This focus is emphasized across the curriculum and specifically addressed in our related arts leadership program.

The curriculum at BPA is robust and rigorous. Classical curriculum was selected for BPA students, making our school the first classical public school in South Carolina.  This curriculum provides high-quality instruction in phonics, Latin, logic, literature, history, math, and science (STEM).  BPA uses curricula produced and published by nationally recognized publishers: Memoria Press Classical Charter School Curriculum and Core Knowledge Classical Curriculum. There is no better place for students to experience rigorous academia and spirited competition than within the safe and nurturing environment of our school.

At BPA, we believe that character development is just as important as academic progress. In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: “We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character–that is the goal of true education.” Developing academically sound students who demonstrate virtue, character, and integrity as they compete in a global society is our ultimate goal and hope for all mankind.
