Approval of Contracts/Personnel (Action)

Motion made by James Galyean to give Mrs. Deirdre McCullough a one-time $10,000 bonus. Angie King 2nd. Motion carries unanimously.

The board of Belton Preparatory Academy accepted the invitation of Reason&Republic to enter into an educational management organization (EMO) contract for the remaining years of BPA’s charter. Reason&Republic is owned in part by James Galyean, a board member of BPA. Mr. Galyean took no part in the consideration, deliberation, or vote in favor of the contract. The remaining BPA board members decided to enter into an EMO contract with Reason&Republic for three main reasons. First, it will allow BPA to leverage Reason&Republic’s financial resources to finance a new educational facility for BPA. Second, it will allow BPA to leverage Reason&Republic’s administrative resources to free up BPA personnel to focus on students and their educational progress. Third, it will allow BPA to grow more rapidly by utilizing Reason&Republic’s marketing and database expertise.  In addition to the significant funds Mr. Galyean has already expended on behalf of BPA, he has the trust of the BPA board that he will act in the best interests of BPA and its students.

Motion made by Jordan Denmark to approve the Education Management Organization (EMO) and adopt the EMO resolution brought forth to the Board in May. Donelle Millwood 2nd. Motion carries. James Galyean and Craig Wooten abstained from the EMO vote.

The Board directed Chris Cauley to effectuate paying down the debt by directing McKay Kiddy & any other staffers to make appropriate payments on BPA’s debt to not exceed $80,000. Donelle Millwood 2nd. Motion carries.
